Fredrick R. Newman, a Prairie Home Companion cast member, was born November 15, 1952 in LaGrange, Georgia. Fred Newman graduated from the University of Georgia as a Sigma Chi fraternity brother. He is also an alumnus of the Harvard School of Business. After school, Fred Newman realized that he could capitalize on his unique vocal talents. Fred Newman wrote, "MouthSounds" .

Fred Newman then began his work on radio and TV as a voice-over personality. Fred Newman is a regular on A Prairie Home Companion and does the main sound-effects, in place of Tom Keith, when the A Prairie Home Companion tapes anywhere other than Saint Paul, Minnesota. Fred Newman has also done work with Children's television, including the Muppets, Doug, Harry and the Hendersons, Who Framed Rodger Rabbit and Livewire a kid's talk show on NICK. Fred Newman was also one of the few adults to appear on the new Mickey Mouse Club.

Fred Newman currently works on A Prairie Home Companion.
